ISA, Toshihiko. 伊砂利彦 型絵染

「模様より模様を作らず」の言葉を守り
鋭い観察力で形なきものを型絵染で表現。

伊砂利彦さんは2010年に永眠されました。松、水、音楽や海などをテーマに制作され、銀座もとじでは音楽とともに作品を鑑賞する会なども開催させていただきました。1924年、京都市の3代続く友禅の糊置き業を営む家に生まれ、美術学校の彫刻科を卒業後に海軍航空隊に入隊。復員後、絵画専門学校を卒業され家業に従事されていた中、富本憲吉氏の「模様より模様を作らず」に感銘を受け、同氏が主催の稲垣稔次郎氏が牽引する新匠会で活躍。蝋纈染から型絵染へと表現技法を変化させ、自然の観察と写生を大切にしながら革新的な作品を発表し続けてきました。型のリズムから音楽が奏でられるかのような創作性に富んだ作品は今なお多くのファンを虜にしています。

Stencil Dyeing


Inspired by the phrase “No pattern is better than any pattern”
Isa uses sharp observational skills,  and things unseen are transformed into something wearable.


Isa Toshihiko was born in Kyoto in 1924, the third generation to a Yuzen Dyeing family. Upon graduating from art school in the sculpture, he joined the Naval Air Force. After demobilization he took up work in the family business.

Deeply influenced by Kenkichi Tomimoto's words, "No pattern is better than any pattern," he became active in the group Shinshokai led by Toshijiro Inagaki. Isa worked mainly in batik, but later began to work more and more with stencil dyeing. He has continued to produce innovative works while placing importance on observing nature. His works give the impression that music and rhythm affects the stencil in which he dyes with. Toshihiko Isao passed away in 2010.


A solo exhibition was held in Ginza Moji Wasen in 2007 and later a talk event at the Shiseido Parlor.

1953年 新匠会初入選（以後2006年まで連続出品）
1959年 新匠会会員となる
1985年 第40回新匠会展　四曲屏風記念大賞
1987年 「伊砂利彦作品集」出版
1988年 京都市芸術文化協会賞
1989年 京都府文化功労賞　京都美術文化賞 沖縄県立芸術大学教授（1995年まで）
1990年 フランス政府より芸術文化勲章・シュバリエ章受賞
1992年 京都市文化功労者 1999年 個展（パリ、シャルトルノフランス）
2005年 東京国立近代美術館主催「伊砂利彦展」工芸館
2006年 京都迎賓館に作品採択
2010年 永眠
