“Ginza‑born Oshima Tsumugi”
We are weaving the classic Tatsugo pattern (龍郷柄)whose geometric design echoes the habu snake’s scales and the fronds of the sago palm, motifs that speak to Amami’s landscape and history.
Watching a bolt grow “like a child”
The loom in our store is set to work roughly twice a week. Customers who commission the cloth can follow every stage of its progress, on‑site in real time and through weekly updates we send directly to them. Seeing the fabric gradually take shape offers a rare moment of connection between the wearer and the living culture of kimono.
Sharing the “finishing ceremony”
When the weaving is complete, we invite you to join the weaver in cutting the cloth free from the loom, a solemn “finishing ceremony” that marks the birth of a bolt you have watched over like your own child. It is an experience that lingers long in the heart.

A “homecoming” to Amami to earn the mark of authenticity
The finished bolt is sent to Amami Oshima, where the Amami Oshima Tsumugi Cooperative conducts its official inspection and certification. Once the seal is affixed, the cloth returns to Ginza as genuine Amami Oshima Tsumugi. We then tailor it with care, completing a one‑of‑a‑kind kimono.
Visiting its roots in your new kimono
We can also arrange a journey to Amami Oshima once your kimono is finished. Meeting the artisans who dyed the threads and touring the places where the cloth was created will deepen your connection to the piece.

Passing a treasured piece to the next generation
A kimono is meant to be handed down, from parent to child, and then to grandchild.
“Ginza‑born Oshima Tsumugi” embraces that tradition. In an age of abundance, it offers a new kind of luxury: engaging deeply with a single item and nurturing it over time.
With a view toward a sustainable future, why not start cultivating a truly valuable piece today?
