「琉球の織り色」に魅せられて
首里王国の伝統技術を再現

那覇市に生まれ、高校卒業後にデザインを学ぶために進学した東京の女子美術大学で、迫力のある沖縄の工芸に心を奪われたことが染織との出会いとのこと。東京の人が沖縄の染織を学んでいる、ならば沖縄生まれの自分こそ学ばなければと、染織家・柳悦孝氏に師事し染織の世界へ。
大学卒業後は染織科の教師を務めながら自身の制作活動、さらに国内外に保存された琉球の染織品の調査・研究に取り組むなど織物の研究を重ねられます。戦争などで多くが失われた沖縄の織物の再現、技術の伝承などに尽力され、2023年7月に重要無形文化財保持者（人間国宝）に認定されました。

 

SHUKUMINE, Kyoko

Born in Naha City, Shukumine Kyoko moved to Tokyo after completing high school to pursue design studies at Tokyo Women's Art University. It was during this time that she developed a deep passion for traditional Okinawan textiles. Witnessing people from Tokyo studying these ancient crafts, she felt a strong calling to immerse herself in their world as well. Guided by her determination, she wholeheartedly delved into the art of textile under the tutelage of the renowned Yanagi Yoshitaka.

Upon graduating from university, Shukumine worked as a teacher in the dyeing and weaving department while wholeheartedly dedicating herself to her creative endeavors. Her curiosity and passion led her to conduct extensive research and investigations into Ryukyuan dyeing and weaving, both within Japan and beyond its borders. She committed herself to reviving the lost Okinawan textiles from wars and other historical events and preserving the traditional techniques for future generations.

Her dedication and expertise earned her recognition, and in July 2023, she was honored as an Important Intangible Cultural Property Holder (Living National Treasure) for her significant contributions to the field.

1976年　那覇伝統織物事業協同組合設立、専務理事に就任
1977年　第1回伝統的工芸品展で内閣総理大臣賞受賞
1986年　県立芸術大学勤務
1992年　文部省在外研究員としてドイツ海外研修
2003年　祝嶺染織研究所開設
2004年　第24回 伝統文化ポーラ賞受賞
2023年　重要無形文化財 保持者（人間国宝）認定
