大自然の命を輝きを表現。

京都府亀岡市に工房を構える、湯本エリ子さん。ご出身は名古屋で、お父様も友禅染めの日本工芸会正会員でいらっしゃったとのこと。染めの仕事が身近にある環境で学生時代を過ごされますが、高校卒業後は一般企業に就職。20歳の頃に旅した旧ソビエトの広い空と大地、雄大なネヴァ川の流れ、大自然のおおらかさに気持ちを救われ、ある決意が芽生えます。

京友禅の師・山科春宣氏には空間を描くことの大切さを学び、独立後は自然豊かな工房で四季を通して草木の特徴を心の眼で見つめ、抽象的なかたちで表現されています。色数を限り、モノトーン調に抑えられた色彩が逆に生命の躍動と存在感を際立たせ、統一感のある清々しさを醸し出しています。

YUMOTO, Eriko

Born in Nagoya, Yumoto Eriko was never far from the world of Yuzen. Her father was a yuzen dyer and a member of the Japanese Craft Council. Despite this, Yumoto herself did not initially pursue Yuzen upon graduating school, but rather took a job as an office worker. At the age of 20, Yumoto took a fateful trip to Russia. Inspired by the vastness of the sky, the breadth of the land, and the majestic flow of the Neva river, she felt compelled to express the beauty of nature through Yuzen.

Inspired by the ever changing shapes and colors of flora throughout the seasons, Yumoto abstracts the familiar and expresses it in a balanced, refined palette. Extremely fresh and dynamic, her work is favored by women from all over Japan.
